Plan to Increase Schengen Visa Fees by 12 Percent as of June 11

Attention travelers! There is an important update regarding Schengen visa fees. The cost of obtaining a Schengen visa for short visits is set to increase by 12 percent, effective June 11, 2024. This change was announced by Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs on May 20, 2024.

Details of the Fee Increase

The European Commission has decided to implement this increase globally, affecting all Schengen visa (Type C visa) applicants. Here’s the official announcement:

“The European Commission has taken the decision to increase the cost of a Schengen visa (type C visa) for short visits worldwide by 12 percent. This increase will apply worldwide from 11 June 2024,” stated an announcement on the website of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs.

Digitization of Schengen Visa Applications

In addition to the fee increase, there is a significant shift in the Schengen visa application process. The European Union (EU) Parliament has approved a plan to digitize Schengen visa applications. This move aims to transition from physical applications and visa stickers to a fully digital system.

Benefits of Digitalization:
  • Faster Processing: The digital system is designed to expedite the visa application process.
  • Cost Efficiency: Reduced administrative costs will make the process more economical.
  • Enhanced Security: The digital system promises better security for applicants’ personal information.

Applicants will be able to submit their Schengen visa applications through a unified online platform, which will also provide information on which countries are accepting their applications.
